The Protein Transition Map NL is growing: 70 new actors in one year!

One year after the launch of the Protein Transition Map NL, 70 new organisations have been added to this online database. The map, an initiative from Foodvalley, The Protein Community, The ministery of LvvN and the Dutch Provinces, demonstrates that 520 organizations across the Netherlands are actively engaged in the protein transition, ranging from innovative start-ups to established food industry leaders. With just one click, you can explore these organizations and begin building connections. This growth highlights the expanding scope and importance of the protein transition.

37% of these organizations are focused on alternative proteins

From microalgae and insects to beans, soy and mycoprotein: over a third of the new entrants are developing or producing innovative, sustainable protein sources. These companies play a crucial role in the transition to a more plant-based diet.

24% of the new entrants are established companies making the transition

Prominent organizations are also joining the shift, with nearly a quarter of these organizations now incorporating plant-based alternatives into their offerings. This marks a clear sign that the protein transition is moving beyond a niche and gaining mainstream momentum.

14% of the new entrants are young initiatives or startups

Innovative ideas are continually emerging: with over 10% of these companies being startups or initiatives that are creating new supply chains through fresh concepts and regional collaborations. The remaining 25% of companies play a vital role in supporting functions, including cultivation, knowledge sharing, distribution, and community building. They serve as the backbone of the ecosystem, helping to strengthen and sustain it.
