Two product-specific consortia are now in place, with partners aligning the right product types for future upcycling strategies—based on strong value propositions and reformulation opportunities using market-ready upcycled ingredients. The starting point for a growing movement with more and more partners joining in.

Building Momentum for Upcycled Food Across the Value Chain

Phase 1 of UPcycled4Food marks a milestone in building a movement for upcycled food. On 19 and 25 November, we organized two hybrid consortium meetings with around 15 participants per session, bringing together a diverse mix of Dutch and international partners.

Join-In Now: Help Shape the Future of Upcycled Products in Bakery, Confectionery & Snacks and Meat & Dairy Alternatives 3 and 5 February

The momentum continues this early 2026. On 3 and 5 February, we will host 1-hour online Join-In sessions (from 9-10 AM CET) designed to validate the selected reference products and the suggested value propositions of upcycled ingredients and products. These sessions will bring in additional perspectives from food manufacturers, retail and foodservice players, and solution providers—ensuring that strategies are aligned with real-world needs and conditions.

The Bigger Picture Phase 2 will build on this foundation, delivering impact assessments and reformulation strategies that can transform the market. By aligning influential actors and fostering collaboration, the initiative is paving the way for upcycled food to become the new normal. UPcycled4Food is more than an initiative: it’s a movement.

How do we move from side streams to scalable upcycled food?
And what does it take to make this work across the entire value chain?

Within the UPcycled4Food Initiative, we’ve already explored key insights and barriers together with a selected group of frontrunners in food across Europe. Now it’s time to take the next step together with you.

We now invite side stream owners, technology and service providers, food and ingredient producers, and retailers to join one (or both) of our upcoming Online Join-in sessions.

Bring your perspective, challenge assumptions, and help validate reference products and value propositions for upcycled ingredients that work in real market conditions.

Join the session(s) and help shape the future of upcycled food.
