Building strong value chains for regenerative agriculture

Within ReGeNL, Foodvalley works to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture by building strong and viable value chains. We connect farmers, producer organisations and cooperatives with processors, off-takers, retailers, foodservice, financial partners and other value chain actors. By bringing supply and demand together, we work towards long-term market commitment and greater market security for regeneratively produced crops.

A key focus is turning collaboration into concrete market opportunities. Looking ahead to 2027 and 2028, we will focus on selected value chains with the potential to develop scalable value chain deals, long-term partnerships and fair contractual conditions. This includes smaller and emerging crops such as nuts, oil-rich crops, naked oats and plant protein crops, as well as vegetables from diversified cropping systems and regenerative potatoes. Working closely with producer organisations and farmer cooperatives helps strengthen the position of farmers and translate regenerative production into a proposition that responds to market demand.

Connecting and learning through the community

Alongside these targeted value chain activities, Foodvalley connects ReGeNL to the Regenerative Agriculture Community. The community brings together actors from across the food system to exchange practical experience, learn from each other and develop new collaborations around the market, knowledge and financial conditions needed to scale regenerative agriculture.

Through our international network and the Resilient Agriculture Portfolio, ReGeNL is also connected to a wider European network of regenerative agriculture landscapes. This creates opportunities to exchange approaches and lessons across regions and connect developments in the Netherlands to the broader transition towards regenerative agriculture in Europe.
