Launch of the Global Food Upcycling Map Marks International Upcycling Day

In celebration of International Upcycling Day, a significant step forward has been taken in the global effort to reduce food waste: the launch of the Global Food Upcycling Map. This new digital tool aims to accelerate collaboration across the food upcycling value chain, helping businesses unlock the full potential of underutilised side streams.

Upcycling — transforming food production side streams into valuable new products — is widely recognised as a key strategy for reducing food loss, lowering environmental impact, and enhancing the circular economy. Yet, a major challenge persists: finding the right partners to make these transformations happen.

The Global Food Upcycling Map, developed in collaboration with DataScouts and supported by Industriens Fond as part of the Food Upcycling Project, addresses this need head-on. The map enables users to identify and connect with key actors in the ecosystem — from ingredient suppliers and technology providers to food brands and logistics partners — all working to create a more sustainable food system.

“With this tool, we aim to make it easier than ever for companies to collaborate, innovate, and lead the shift toward circular agrifood systems,” said the project team.

The initiative is a collaboration between several leading organisations, including the Teknologisk Institut, Foodvalley, Food & Bio Cluster Denmark, DTU National Food Institute, DI Fødevarer, Dagrofa ApS, and Landbrug & Fødevarer
