UPcycled4Food initiative – What is it about?
The UPcycled4Food initiative (June 2025-Dec 2027) tackles the limited market demand for upcycled foods in Europe through verified and compelling benchmarks showing a clear value proposition to offtakers – in retail, foodservice and public procurement.
Phase 2 (June 2026-May 2027) delivers independent, expert-run impact assessments across 5 key dimensions (sensory, economic, nutritional, environmental, social) to back up the reference products co-defined in Phase 1 (June 2025-May 2026) within the first two product categories: “Bakery, Confectionery & Snacks” and “Meat & Dairy Alternatives (incl. Blended)”.
Checkpoint Meeting 2.1
This first Checkpoint Meeting in Phase 2 will provide a solid base for starting to shape the impact assessments – the defining elements for this stage of the UPcycled4Food initiative.
The partner base has been reshaped specifically for this purpose, and existing and new partners will have a first opportunity to get to know each other. The meeting will also help form the subgroups (based on pre-indicated interest from partners) in which partners will operate in Phase 2.
There will be 5 working groups for each of the 5 product types identified in Phase 1.
These are:
- Cookies & Biscuits
- Bread & Rolls
- Blended Burgers
- Blended Ground Meats
- Blended Yoghurts
Other agenda points that will be discussed include the broader timeline, goals and implementation plan for this Phase.
